These beams are composite timber beams with plywood sides and solid timber flanges at the top and bottom, inside the ply. The sections are glued and screwed together and they form a very light beam capable of supporting light to moderate loadings over relatively long spans. They can be fabricated for much longer spans than normal timber beams. They are often used in roofspaces when the loadings are not high and it is difficult to manoeuver heavy steel beams into position.
Our structural calculations for a plybox beam includes providing full connection details for the component parts of the beam.
We need the following information to design a plybox beam:
architectural layouts or sketch drawings with dimensions, so we can work out the loadings the beam will be supporting
Design Information
All design work is carried out in accordance with BS5268 (The structural use of timber).
The calculations provided will be suitable for Building Regulation approval.
