Timber floor joists are still the most popular way of constructing suspended floors.
If the floor joists are supported on a timber bearing plate, rather than by being built directly into the wall, or using joist hangers, sometimes calculations are requested by the local authority. Often these calculations are requested when the work has been done, because the detail was not shown on the drawings and therefore the detail was not approved.
Our structural calculations for a timber bearing plate includes the design of the timber plate and the number of connections required to the wall. Our structural design also includes the calculations for the masonry fixings themselves
We need the following information to design a timber bearing plate:
the span of the joists bearing onto the plate
details of any unusual loadings
details of any partition walls the joists have to support
details of the supporting wall construction
Design information
All design work is carried out in accordance with BS5268 (The structural use of timber).
The calculations provided will be suitable for Building Regulation approval.
