What is an RSJ ? |
A |
An RSJ is a rolled steel joist. These are 'I' section steel
beams. Most 'I' section beams which are used in construction
theses days are not actually RSJ's but UB's or UC's (Universal
Beams and Columns). These have parallel flanges rather than
the tapered flanges of RSJ's and therefore they are slightly
more efficient sections. Although UC's are primarily designed
for use as columns, they do make very efficient sections for
beams with longer spans (typically over 4m) because of their
increased resistance to lateral torsional buckling.
